Reaction with water
Copper does not react with water.
Reaction with oxygen
On strong heating, copper forms into a black solid of copper oxide. copper + oxygen —> copper(II) oxide 2Cu(s) + O2(g) —> 2CuO(s)
Reaction with dilute acids
Copper usually does not react with most cold, dilute acids. However, it will react with hot, concentrated sulfuric acid and can react with both dilute and concentrated nitric acid.
